Ancient Greek Chaise Longue
Made of Greek walnut. Dimensions 1.50mx0.65mx0.85m-0.45m. Back constructed withthree pieces of walnut dowelled together. Leatherthongs on seat and loose cushion. Design taken from a red-figured kylix, circa:465-460 B.C., discovered in Spina.
The kline was a type of ancient greek furniture which at one edge was slightly raised.It was used mainly during the symposium and for relaxation. Usually they could be made entirely of wood, but sometimes had bronze legs cast in animal styles.Under the kline ancient greeks were placing their low tables which usually had three legs.
